JOHNSON VALLEY, CA: Hammerking Productions is pleased to announce that 2017 dates have been secured for the Nitto King of The Hammers presented by Optima Battery. The 11th annual KOH week will commence with Hammertown opening to the public on Friday February 3rd, 2017 and will continue through Saturday, February 11th, 2017. The actual King of The Hammers race will take place on Friday, February 10th, 2017. All races from 2016 are expected to return for 2017 including: The Smittybilt Every Man Challenge, Can-Am KOH UTV Race Presented by RCV, King of The Motos, and Vision X Shootout.z

“KOH 2016 was our biggest and most succesful King of The Hammers to date. We look forward to continuing that momentum into 2017.” said Hammerking founder, Dave Cole, who went on to say, “It is our goal to release dates as early as possible to give teams and fans plenty of time to prepare for their annual trip to the lake bed.” With 2017 President’s Day falling later in the month of February, Hammerking moved the race back to it’s traditional place in the first full week of February. The last few years, opening day crept into late January due to President’s Day taking place earlier in February. The holiday is one of the largest recreational wheeling weekends in Southern California, and KOH Week must be completed prior to holiday weekend.

About King of The Hammers: King of the Hammers is considered the toughest one-day off road race in the world. It is the largest off-road race event in North America in terms of both competitors and spectators. It combines desert racing and rock crawling, and has expanded from one race to a series of 5 races held throughout the week and takes place each February in Johnson Valley, CA.

How To Register

All drivers must login to register. If you've raced with us in the past, you already have a driver profile, simply click on "request new password" with the username or email address you used.

Once logged in, select the race from the schedule
Select "racer" tab
Select your class
Select the "season commitment" button if you wish to receive a discounted entry fee at KOH for committing to race at least 3 regional races next season.

For those signing up for KOH Week, you have two options, you can select either the single race price, or the series committed price. Drivers that commit to racing at least 3 races in either the Eastern or Western Regional Series receive a significant discount on their KOH Week Entry fee as well as their series entry fees. You DO NOT need to pay for the whole series until after KOH and before the regional series begins. Series committed drivers must be paid for the season by April 1st.

If you register between 12/16 and 1/15:

Online: $2520(w/series commitment) and $3010 (single race w/o series commitment)

King of the Hammers

Just $20 for the week if pre-ordered and $25 at the gate! Kids 10 and are free.

Per the Bureau of Land Management, no drones are allowed to be flown throughout KOH week as we have Helicopters for rescue and filming.

Be sure to bring cash! Internet and Cell service are spotty. If you want to breeze through the front gate, the fastest way to do that is with cash.

Hammertown, is the central meeting place during King of The Hammers week. It is located on Mean's Dry Lake in Johnson Valley, CA. The address for most GPS Units is: Boone Rd Landers, CA 92285. You can also type "king of the hammers" into ygoogle maps and it will direct you there!

Spectating: Hammertown promises to be bigger and better than ever in 2017. All racing action will begin and end in Hammertown. There will be two live jumbotrons. Vendors open during the day and plenty of food vendors. There are port a potties in Hammertown.

Johnson Valley OHV area is open to everyone. The race course and within 150 feet of the race course is closed to the public on race days. The spectator areas are set up to give spectators a chance to see the race at a safe distance from the action. Many of these spectator areas are the same as in prior years where people have enjoyed watching the race.

Firewood will be available for sale on site

OHV Vehicles: All trail rigs, bikes, quads, UTVs need some form of permit. Street legal vehicles need proper plates and registration. California OHVs need a green sticker. Out of state motorized transportation will need to get an out of state green sticker. These will be for sale at the information booth in Hammertown. They can also be purchased in advance online by clicking here: We will also have these stickers available at the front gate and information booth on site.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL individuals in UTVs/Side by Sides are required to wear helmets per California law.

Water and Dump Service: There will be a vendor on site in Hammertown where teams can go to schedule and pay for water and dump services throughout the week. We will not be offering pre-paid services like we did last year. Individuals will be able to deal directly with the Water/Dump provider on site.

Where does my spectator fee go?
$190000 - blm permit (based upon estimated number of spectators)
$40000 - port a potties
$20000 - medical personnel (based on number of spectators)
$22000 - jumbotron for spectators who don’t have vehicles to go to canyons
$30000 - security
$10000 – dust control caused by number of vehicles in Johnson Valley
$20000 fencing for spectator safety

Camping: Camping is free. It is dry camping, but there will be water trucks and dump trucks roaming the area that will service your vehicles for a fee. Most of Mean's Dry Lake Bed will be filled by Hammer Town. The race teams, vendors, and Hammerking HQ will all be on Mean's Dry Lake. Johnson Valley is an open OHV area, so other than Hammer Town, Campers are able to camp essentially wherever they would like to as long as it's not within 150' of the race course. vehicles, camping, etc.

RV Rental: Corona Motor Home Rentals is the preferred RV rental of choice.

Hotel Accomomadations: The closest hotel location to King of The Hammers is Yucca Valley. We recommend the Best Western in Yucca Valley.

The two closest towns to The Hammers are Lucerne Valley and Yucca Valley.

Registration Information:

Additional mandatory costs for this race will include USAC insurance, gps trackers, tech fee (included with annual USAC membership), Pit Passes for teams. Additional optional costs include tent rentals, Hammertown garage reservation fees and additional KOH Parking stickers.
