Extreme enduro open to multiple classes
January 15, 2013 (Temecula, CA) – Dubbed the toughest extreme enduro in the U.S., the 2013 King of the Motos – Presented by FMF - takes place in less than three weeks with the green flag dropping on Sunday, February 3rd. The event kicks off the 7th annual Griffin King of the Hammers week in Johnson Valley, California, two hours east of Los Angeles.
The 2013 enduro course is an approximate 80-mile loop consisting of open desert racing, loose climbs and the famed rock terrain that has made the Hammers an iconic off-road area. The spirit of the race is one-man, one-bike, no outside assistance except from other competitors. “Our goal is to encourage all racers to participate. Success is not based on the amount of support or dollars a team may have, but the tenacity of the rider,” noted co-director Jimmy Lewis.
The event is open this year to pros, experts and amateurs. All riders will compete on the same brutal course, with pros racing two laps and experts and amateurs racing one lap. Amateurs will compete as a team of two riders. The format is similar to Romaniacs and gives this class of riders a chance to seriously test endurance and technical skills. The primary course GPS information will be distributed on Friday prior to the race with some key sections kept secret until the evening before the race. GPS data will then be redistributed. Racers are expected to finish the course in approximately five hours with an eight-hour time limit.
2012 King of the Motos winner and former World Trials Champion, Graham Jarvis, will return to defend his title along with enduro racers Kurt Caselli, Destry Abbott and Red Bull’s Ivan Ramirez. Jarvis has taken the extreme enduro world by storm since 2011, winning multiple major global races. Two and four-wheel desert racer, Cameron Steele, will be competing for his first King of the Motos.
Onsite spectators can view the course from three designated spectator areas or in the King of the Hammers main village (Hammertown) via Jumbotron coverage. The race will be broadcast live online at http://ultra4racing.com/live
